Palliative care in Romania [Новость добавлена - 05.09.2007] Palliative care is a new phenomenon in Romania . PhD student Luminita Dumitrescu describes the development in the sector in Romania , studies the effect of palliative care at home and makes an inventory of the satisfaction levels of involved family members and caregivers. Palliative care concentrates on supporting and helping people with an incurable disease and aims to improve patient's quality of life by reducing or eliminating pain and other physical symptoms. Palliative care is a new phenomenon in Romania . PhD student Luminita Dumitrescu describes the development in the sector in Romania , studies the effect of palliative care at home and makes an inventory of the satisfaction levels of involved family members and caregivers. Dumitrescu states that palliative care is needed in the country joining the EU on 1 January 2007 and should be implemented on a structural basis. The research shows that palliative care at home is more effective and preferable to institutional care. In the implementation and organization of palliative care Romania could benefit from Dutch experiences, for example in developing regional expertise centres.
