One of the most important events in Ukraine in the field of palliative care is a three-week workshop organised by the All-Ukrainian Association of Palliative Care. The workshop is designed for physicians and nurses. The trainers of the workshop are Mary Callaway from the Open Society Institute and Frank Ferris from the San-Diego Hospice. Mr Alexander Wolf, the Palliative Care Development Director at the All-Ukrainian Association of Palliative Care, had several meetings on palliative care issues in different institutions in Ukraine, where important possibilities emerged and were discussed. Thus in Smila there is an initiative to create palliative care ward for patients with mental disability, in Zaporozze there are plans for developing pediatric palliative care, and in Mykolaiv a general development of palliative care constitutes the main aim. The All-Ukrainian Council for Patients' Rights and Safety gladly supports these initiatives. |
