Planting daffodil bulbs on Margaret Island
The Hungarian Hospice Foundation organized the annual event of the Fields of Hope program for the second time at the Pest-Buda monument on Margaret Island, scheduled this year on the 10th of October 2008.
The event was honoured by the presence of Ms Joanna Stempinska, the international patroness of the program, representatives of the diplomatic corps of Austria, Brazil, Ireland, and Canada, dr. Leonárd Weinek, the mayor of Zugló (the 14th district of Budapest). The occasion was celebrated with the performance of the following artists: musicians Lajos Galambos and his attendant Ferenc Herflich, actor Csaba Pindroch and musician Dániel Torres.
Ms Erzsébet Sólyom, the main patroness of the program, greeted the participants of the Fields of Hope movement in a letter read out by the director of the Hungarian Hospice Foundation, Dr. Katalin Muszbek.
Following the speech of dr. Leonárd Weinek, mayor of Zugló-Budapest, accordionist Lajos Galambos and his attendant Ferenc Herflich played the Candlelight waltz.
The actor Csaba Pindroch read out sections from the "Füveskönyv" by Sándor Márai. The program's voluntary ambassador, Dániel Torres was playing music during the planting.
Dr. Katalin Muszbek, the program's international patron, the members of the diplomatic corps, and the attending artists planted the first bulbs together. Several other groups and individuals proceeded with this noble activity: six Budapest schools and two kindergartens that usually take part in the program, workers of the FŐKERT Zrt, UPC Magyarország Ltd, colleagues, friends and supporters.
On the Hungarian Hospice Foundation's initiative in autumn 2008 Fields of Hope flowerbeds were planted throughout the country with the participation of hospice organizations, mayors, colleagues, children, teachers, guests and supporters:
• the Hungarian Hospice Foundation's flowerbed on Margaret Island in Budapest and on Déri square in Debrecen
• MAZSIHISZ charity hospital, Budapest
