INVITATION - Moving Palliative and End-of-life Care Forward [Новость добавлена - 22.04.2010] May 17-21, 2010 Discussion Forums Third Invitation – dated April 12, 2010 With Information about Speakers and Attendance via the Elluminate Program
Registration is not needed and there is no cost to attend. This information-sharing series is organized by a cross-Canada and international team of CIHR-funded researchers and healthcare providers headed by Allison Williams and Donna Wilson. We would like to hear from you about your concerns, programs, and/or services at this conference; and we would like to share our completed research that addresses these concerns: · the number of people who pass away each year is doubling, with advance planning needed for “good” deaths. · most (80-90%) of the people who die today in Canada and other developed countries are advanced in age and/or have advanced end-stage illnesses; their care and support needs differ from those who die suddenly. · a major shift of death and dying out of hospital has occurred without planning in Canada, leaving nursing homes and families with few resources to cope with greater palliative and end-of-life care roles. · people who live in rural/remote areas have unique needs and interests, such as transportation and care transition concerns, a distinct culture, and less access to the specialized palliative care and other end-of-life services that commonly exist now in urban areas. If you attend in person, each session will begin in the Tory Building (Tory Basement, room TB 95), at the north end of the University of Alberta’s “north” or main campus, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. If you are attending through your computer, we are using the real-time Elluminate program so that you can see, hear, and take part in the discussions ( Please check your computer now to make sure it can use Elluminate. ** If you have any difficulties with the following link or with the Elluminate program, please check with your local IT/computer experts as your computer may have a firewall. ** Please paste and clip the following E-address into your browser: http://www.elluminate.com/Support/?id=62/ ** This URL and the webpage that opens will automatically detect whether the computer has what is needed to run Elluminate. People will either get a check mark if everything is ok or a red x along with information that will let them know what they are missing. Once it has started, go to the “configuration room” to test your computer’s audio. Clicking on the “configuration room” link should trigger the Elluminate session to open and it will be self-explanatory after this. ** We will send out another link, closer to the May 17-21 conference, for the conference itself. We encourage you to attend and to invite others, as we look forward to many good discussions! An agenda and speaker information is provided below or as attached. See additional information and speaker photographs, as well as information about this CIHR-funded team of researchers and their research at our website: http://www.nursing.ualberta.ca/tast/index.htm Donna Wilson, RN, PhD
